The Connections Between Your Past, Present, And Future Selves.

This journaling exercise invites you to explore the connections between your past, present, and future selves.

Our identity is constantly evolving, shaped by what we've experienced and what we hope to become.

Step 1: Create Three Versions of You
Start by dividing your page into three sections. In each section, create an image of your past self, present self, and future self.

  • Past Self: How would you depict who you were at a formative time in your life? What colors, textures, or symbols represent your past?

  • Present Self: How do you see yourself right now? What’s on the surface? What feelings or patterns show up in the artwork?

  • Future Self: Imagine who you’ll be in the future. What qualities or dreams do you see? This can be symbolic—maybe your future self is full of light, standing at a crossroads, or surrounded by elements of what you aspire to.

Step 2: Create Connections Between Them
Now, let the three versions of yourself speak to each other.

  • Draw lines, shapes, or paths connecting them.

  • Add symbols that reflect how the past has shaped the present—and what you hope the future will bring.

  • You could use words or phrases that the past, present, and future versions might say to each other.

Step 3: Reflect on Identity
Once you’ve finished your artwork, take a moment to reflect:

  • How do the three versions of yourself feel connected?

  • What’s something you’ve learned from your past that’s still present with you today?

  • What does your future self wish for you right now, and how can you bring some of that wisdom or energy into today?

This exercise is an invitation to honor your journey and see how each phase of your life is woven into who you are becoming.
