The Shape of Safety
This art journaling prompt is about exploring what safety feels like to you—inside your body, in your relationships, or in the world around you. Instead of thinking about what should feel safe, you’ll give shape to what truly does.
Step 1: Create a Container
Draw a large shape on your page to act as a container—maybe a circle, square, nest, cave, or something abstract. This is the space that will hold your sense of safety.
Step 2: Fill the Container
Inside the shape, add colors, textures, patterns, or images that represent what safety feels like for you. It could be warm tones, soft lines, protective symbols, or memories that bring comfort.
Step 3: Notice the Edges
Look at the outline of your container. Add marks or images around it that show what protects your safety—or what threatens it. Maybe it’s a strong wall, an open gate, tangled vines, or cracks. Be honest with what shows up.
When you’re finished, sit with the image. Notice what helps you feel safe, and what makes that safety vulnerable.
