Ripples and Stillness
This art journaling prompt is about slowing down and noticing the rhythm between movement and stillness. It’s less about the image itself and more about the act of creating patterns that let your mind settle.
Step 1: Begin with a Circle
Draw a single circle in the middle of your page. This is your center.
Step 2: Add the Ripples
From that circle, begin adding repeating lines, shapes, or patterns outward—like ripples on water. They could be waves, spirals, dots, or geometric marks. Let your hand move slowly, almost like breathing.
Step 3: Notice the Gaps
As you doodle, leave some areas open—pockets of stillness. Then, if you want, fill those spaces with softer patterns, shading, or gentle color washes.
This practice isn’t about perfection. It’s about watching how repetition creates calm, and how stillness has its own beauty.
Sit with your page when you’re done, and notice: Does your “inner water” feel still, moving, or both?
